Films

Poul Anderson has:

Atlantis in the Dancer From Atlantis;
mermen in The Merman's Children;
a reference to Clark Kent in There Will Be Time. (See also here.)

The Justice League film has:

an Atlantean merman, the Aquaman;
the Resurrection of Clark Kent.

Am I alone, sitting in the cinema, in thinking of Poul Anderson and wanting these novels to be filmed? Images of the Aquaman withstanding a giant wave on a sinking ship and rescuing the sailor show how easy it would be to film The Merman's Children.

Films need substance as well as special effects and Anderson certainly supplies the former.

Well, provided they were done well, yes.

Kaor, Paul!

The only book of Poul Anderson I've heard of which was used for a film was THE HIGH CRUSADE. And if I recall right, it was panned as execrable and not worth watching.

You already know from my "Textual Crawl For Flandry Movies" how I wish somebody would take a chance and use one of the Nicholas van Rijn or Dominic Flandry stories for a film.

Somewhat off topic, but since you mentioned Atlantis....

There's a webcomic I follow. The "science" in it is about as hard as custard, but then it's generally concerned with being funny, not scientifically rigorous.

At any rate, in the last few days, several characters arrived at their world's version of London, which (along with most of Britain), wound up UNDER WATER as a result of something done by a group of mad scientists about 300 years ago. (Yes; mad scientists. For a long time, the motto of the series was that the Industrial Revolution turned into all-out war.)

The page for Monday, 20 November 2017 is at: http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20171120#.WhWfsFWnFpg

That's first in a two-page spread, so I recommend after taking it in, you click on the button to go to Wednesday's portion, with its inspiring message that no matter what, "England shall THRIVE!"

I have a t-shirt with a slogan based on this series. It proclaims: "Fools! I will destroy you all!" [In smaller letters] "Ask me how!"
