Reputations: Holm, Abrams, Falkayn

"'I understand [Daniel Holm]'s caused not just the Lauran fleet but the planetary defenses to be enormously increased, these past years,' Cajal said. 'Yes, we must certainly take care of him first.'"
-Poul Anderson, The People of the Wind IN Anderson, Rise Of The Terran Empire (Riverdale, NY, March 2011), pp. 437-662 AT VII, p. 513.

"'Nobody knows how the Terrans got the information, but Runei says they have a fiendishly good Intelligence chief."
-Ensign Flandry, CHAPTER THREE, p. 26.

"'Maybe you imagine being famous will protect you. Well, forget that. You're a long ways off into a territory that doesn't care a good goddamn about your reputation.'"
-Poul Anderson, Mirkheim IN Rise Of The Terran Empire, pp. 1-291 AT VI, p. 99.

Terran Intelligence learns about Daniel Holm, Second Marchwarden of the Lauran System. Fodaich Runei, the greenskin cinc on Starkad, knows Max Abrams, the local Terran Intelligence chief. But even David Falkayn's reputation does not stretch across the interstellar space between the Solar Commonwealth and Babur.

Kaor, Paul!

Yes, without Daniel Holm's nagging, prodding, arm (and WING) twisting I doubt Avalon would have been able to resist annexation by the Empire.

AND, long term, it was fortunate for the Empire that it failed to gain Avalon.

Ad astra! Sean
