Place Names On Talwin

A Circus of Hells.

Most place names, e.g., the Golden River, are bestowed by the Merseians who call the two intelligent species "Domrath" and "Ruadrath":

"-rath" is Eriau for "folk" (see the combox here);

"Dom" is the Merseian pronunciation of a local community self-designation;

"Ruadhrath" had been Eriau for a class of mythological supernatural nocturnal beings.

The Ruadrath do not have place names in the usual sense because they do not distinguish between place names, possessives and eponyms.

Hellkettle Mountains
Mt. Thunderbelow
Seething Springs
Barrier Bay
Golden River (auriferous sands)
Neverfreeze River (fed by volcanic springs; a tributary of the Golden)
Ktha-g-klek

(Covers favour Wayland as against Talwin.)

Kaor, Paul!

I think the Ruadrath will adopt place names after they learn literacy, because of how useful they are.

If A CIRCUS OF HELLS has one flaw it's that we don't see enough of the Wayland AI, esp. after Flandry succeeded in waking up the White King. Makes me wish Anderson had expanded Chapter X to do that.

Ad astra! Sean
