Life In The Clouds

Orbit Unlimited.

Wind scours particles off rocks.
Dense air carries particles up to the clouds.
Water drops dissolve minerals from the particles.
Microbes eat the minerals.
Larger organisms eat the microbes.
One species is bigger than a man.

Air Porpoises
Bigger than men.
Like fat cigars.
Jet-propelled.
Airborne by biologically generated hydrogen in a bladder.
Sucking in air.
Retaining nebulo-plankton.
Blowing out air for propulsion.
"'Slow, stupid, and harmless.'" (5, p. 127)

Some of the above is Svoboda's guesswork. He and Coffin descend the side of High America through the cloud stratum.
