The People Of The Wind.
Meditation is mentioned at least twice in relation to Ythrians. First, unmarried Ythrian females are supposed to spend their energy in work, meditation or study. Secondly, Arinnian expects that, if Vodan cannot be with Eyath before going to war, then he will either meditate in flight or carouse with friends but not spend time with a permanently in heat female.
Does the Ythrian New Faith include contemplative practice? I can imagine:
living on Avalon;
joining a choth;
flying with a gravbelt;
attending Khruaths;
meditating, both seated and in flight;
living as long and fully as possible;
regarding death as literally the ultimate experience and God the Hunter as a powerful metaphor.

Kaor, Paul!
Again, I'm reminded of how much I dislike Christopher Holm in the first half of THE PEOPLE OF THE WIND. He comes across as irritatingly smug, neurotic, and priggish.
And I think that was intentional on Anderson's part. To show us how not all heroes are going to be likable. At least not before some, like Holm, learn some wisdom.
Ad astra! Sean
