Satan's World, XXIII.
We are obliged to obey lawful orders by our rightful superiors.
Van Rijn ends his message:
"To David Falkayn, Chee Lan, and/or any other entities who may be present: Do not spend a minute on anything else. Go home immediately and inform the leadership of the League." (p. 569)
He obviously means: "Do not attempt to rescue us." My response, like Falkayn's, would be to obey. The Cynthian Chee Lan's highest moral obligation is neither to her employer nor to Technic civilization but to her shipmate, Adzel, who is with van Rijn - so she will rescue the latter as well.
If Falkayn refuses to cooperate, then she will stun him and tie him up even though she will be less likely to succeed without his help. The clinching argument, to my mind, is that they should be able to carry off such an operation "'...against these Shenn yokels...'" (p. 578)
Muddlehead locates the source of van Rijn's broadcast by its:
"'...pattern of reflections off the ionosphere...'" (p. 577)
Next, van Rijn and Adzel must be contacted and their help gained against their protests. After that, it should be a piece of pie.

Kaor, Paul!
It only LOOKED as "easy as a piece of pie" afterwards. Anything might have gone wrong during the attempt to rescue Old Nick and Falkayn. A blaster shot aimed just right could have killed any of these four beings. And so on.
Ad astra! Sean
Oops! I meant "...rescue Old Nick and ADZEL."
