By contrast with Ferrans and Ythrians, Merseians are spread right across the period of publication of Poul Anderson's Technic History, almost from the beginning. In order of publication, not of fictional events, the Technic History began with the first Captain Flandry story, "Tiger by the Tail," in January 1951 and ended with the last Terran Empire novel,
The Game Of Empire, in 1985. (That novel features Fleet Admiral Flandry but focuses on his daughter but the Technic History is much more than its Flandry period.)
The Merseians first appeared in the second Captain Flandry story, "Honorable Enemies," in May 1951 and last appeared in The Game Of Empire. Between those book-ends, they:
became the continuing villains of the Captain Flandry series;
appeared in the Young Flandry Trilogy, set earlier;
were retconned into the Polesotechnic League period, set still earlier.

Kaor, Paul!
And the first version of "Honorable Enemies" was where Anderson first used "Ythri". Which he was to reuse for his Ythrian stories.
Ad astra! Sean
