Ensign Flandry, CHAPTER SIX.
We learn something about the range of wristcoms. From the tower of Dragoika's house in the East Housing of Ujanka, she and Flandry look across town at the green copper dome of the Sisterhood headquarters centrum in the West Housing. Since the vaz-Terran have given the Sisterhood a radio, Flandry is able to call their HQ on his wristcom. The Tigery who answers has been unable to raise the Navy dome of Ujanka Station in the hills above the town probably because the Station switchboard is flooded with calls from Navy men who are down in the town and reporting the attack.
The microunit of Flandry's wristcom cannot reach Highport unless it is relayed by the 'caster in Ujanka Station but it will enable him to speak to someone in the Station provided that every circuit is not tied up and that one of them notices a signal light. When Lieutenant Kaiser does answer, Flandry says, "'Flandry here,'" (p. 58) but does not mention his rank!
From Kaiser, Flandry learns that the greenskin air fleet is hovering in the stratosphere, that Terran fliers are scrambled to defend Highport and that Ujanka Station must wait half an hour for firefighting transports to arrive.
So this emergency calls for Dominic Flandry, Hero, to save Ujanka!

Kaor, Paul!
And, of course, I would expect radios and wristcoms a thousand and more years in the future to be more advanced than what we have!
And that saving of Ujanka by Flandry would really begin to set him on to his destiny!
Ad astra! Sean
