A Circus Of Hells, CHAPTER TWELVE.
In the opening paragraph, Ydwyr the Seeker and Morioch Sun-in-eye, seated on their tails, seem crouched as if to spring. Their postures, size, body odors, voices and tones "...gave Djana a sense of anger..." (p. 276) Thus, this paragraph is narrated from Djana's point of view (pov). In the second paragraph, Flandry does not know what the title, datholch, signifies. Thus, there has been an abrupt shift of narrative perspective from Djana's to Flandry's pov where it stays for the remainder of this chapter.
The datholch, Ydwyr, and the qanryf (Naval commandant), Morioch, disagree as to which of them should take charge of the prisoner, Flandry. Because Flandry momentarily reflects on the spelling and pronunciation of "qanryf," I had expected to discuss Eriau pronunciation at this point but find that I have already done so.
The details of Merseian life are endlessly elaborated way beyond what was originally presented during their earliest published appearance in "Honorable Enemies."

Kaor, Paul!
Yes, we see a lot about the Merseians in the second part of A CIRCUS OF HELLS, with Anderson carefully showing us their better sides. While also making it plain they NEEDED to be opposed.
Ad astra! Sean
