The Japanese Sun Goddess

Amaterasu, the Japanese Sun Goddess, is invoked in SM Stirling's Emberverse series (see Amaterasu-Omikami) and prayed to by James Bond (see Prayer) and a planet is named after her in Poul Anderson's Harvest of Stars future history (see Amaterasu).

Today: Sheila's cold has returned so no day trip to London and maybe a few blog posts.

Kaor, Paul!

You have just reminded that the very last Emberverse volume S.M. Stirling plans to write may have been published this month. I should go to the bookstore and look for a copy.

I am sorry Mrs. Shackley is not feeling so well. I hope she soon gets over that cold for good!

I will!

And today also happens to be the feast day of St. Gregory of Tours, a saint I have come to like very much from reading his HISTORY OF THE FRANKS. I even gave Poul Anderson a copy of Lewis Thorpe's translation of that work as a b'day present in 1992.

Just back, and I did buy a copy of Stirling's THE SKY BLUE WOLVES! Once I finish THE LAST VIKING, I'm tempted to read that book firs, before starting the HARVEST OF STARS tetralogy.
