Jack The Bodiless, Rogatien Remillard is on the run with Teresa Kendall because Teresa's pregnancy is illegal although she is already telepathically in contact with her unborn son, Jon/"Jack."
Guthrie's downloaded personality has survived Guthrie's death. Jack's brain, a new stage of metapsychic evolution, will not only survive the death of his chronically ill body but also psychocreatively create a new body around itself.
Thus, two kinds of disembodiment and potential immortality.

And THAT reminds me of one of things I disliked about Julian May's Galactic Milieu: how it forced humans to accept the "legalization" of abortion. I disliked its decree that certain kinds of unborn children were to be aborted.
