Kinds Of Disembodiment

In Poul Anderson's Harvest Of Stars, Kyra Davis is on the run with download Guthrie, whom she carried in a bag, because the Security Police are after Guthrie. In Julian May's Jack The Bodiless, Rogatien Remillard is on the run with Teresa Kendall because Teresa's pregnancy is illegal although she is already telepathically in contact with her unborn son, Jon/"Jack."

Guthrie's downloaded personality has survived Guthrie's death. Jack's brain, a new stage of metapsychic evolution, will not only survive the death of his chronically ill body but also psychocreatively create a new body around itself.

Thus, two kinds of disembodiment and potential immortality.

Kaor, Paul!

And THAT reminds me of one of things I disliked about Julian May's Galactic Milieu: how it forced humans to accept the "legalization" of abortion. I disliked its decree that certain kinds of unborn children were to be aborted.
