In this chapter, Vodra Shaun of the Kith ship Fleetwing and Dau Ernen, formerly of the Kith ship, Argosy, are together on a planet named "Brent" and the Kithic language is now "Kithish." This summary incorporates several future historical references. We recognize:

We have known several generations of Shauns and have even watched their surname evolve. We know that, despite the time dilation that should have preserved him through all these millennia, the original, now "...half mythic..." (p. 434), Brent of Envoy is by now dead. What will we learn about the planet Brent during this chapter? I cannot remember.
Our next big event, in Chapter 47, will be the return of Envoy, without Brent and three others, to Earth but first we should read about Brent, the planet.

One thing I would like to know is how many planets had been colonized by humans before STL interstellar travel started fading away. One thing I'm sure of is that the colonists will not abandon those planets, unlike the Merseian look a likes and the Tahirians!
