Northern Lights

The Shield Of Time, PART FOUR, 13,211 B.C., VIII.

Red Wolf and Broken Blade see the Northern Lights:

"Above the northern horizon, the Winter Hunters were kindling their fires." (p. 230)

I want to quote Poul Anderson's description and to make a comparison with Neil Gaiman but I find that I did so six and a half years ago. See The Winter Hunters.

Two personal reflections on the Northern Lights:

a couple of times, Aileen and I heard that the Lights might be about to appear above Morecambe Bay so we drove out there but saw nothing;

Aileen suggested that there might be some basis to stories of the Lights carrying people away - people wandering away watching them and getting lost.

Kaor, Paul!

Before my brother fell ill last year we had been tentatively planning on going to Norway in June or July to enjoy the strange, to us, spectacle of the Land of the Midnight Sun. Not the same as the Northern Lights, but still of interest!

Ad astra! Sean
