Organizations And Metalanguages

For a recent comparison  of Poul Anderson's Time Patrol with James Blish's Service, see Time Travel Organizations And Superior Beings.

For more such comparisons, see here.

Here is another parallel. When pressed with questions about mutable reality, Unattached Patrol Agent Komozino invokes metalanguage. Thor Wald, inventor of the Dirac transmitter monopolized by the Service, also invents a mathematical metalanguage that can handle:

"time projection" (mental time travel);
multiple dimensions;
multiple future scientific paradigms.

The Service continues to resemble a mini-Patrol.

Kaor, Paul!

Do you think Blish might have written time traveling stories as good as those written by Anderson had he (Blish) lived longer?

Sean,

He did hope to write a time travel novel eventually but I can't say that it would have been as good as those by Anderson.

Paul.

I did wonder, because of how much you like Blish's own stories.
