The Vastness Of The Time Patrol

Fifty Thousand Years suggests the vastness of the Patrol.

In An Understaffed Patrol?, I argued not only that the organization is vast but that it is so vast that the Patrol members' repeated refrain that they are chronically understaffed seems unfounded.

Reread the relevant passages and posts and see what you think. I am out of here. John Grisham is claiming my evening reading slot.

There was something on TV about the possibility of life on Venus.

I am no so sure. A Time Patrol tasked with mounting guard over a million or more years of history in countless eras and places would need a vast corps of agents and specialists (plus an administrative staff) to even try to do that. Surely millions of people would be needed. Hence I can Everard and others being legitimately anxious over how strained and understaffed the Patrol was.

Sean,

But I calculated that the Patrol has 100,000,000 members.

Exclusive of Specialists/administrative staff? But that would make it even more likely for Everard to believe the Patrol was understaffed.

Sean,

100 members for every year to be guarded.

I don't think that would be enough, when the Patrol has to watch over a million or more years of history. Esp. when not all of those agents would be suitable for working in all milieus or eras of history. I argue that if Everard thought the Patrol understaffed then it probably was.
