Biblical Images

See here for a question about Biblical images and symbols and for a link to a discussion of Biblical quotations.

See the combox for a neat "666" reference.

See here for powerful Christological imagery, here for an even more powerful image of the Day of Judgement and here for "Different Uses Of The Bible In Fiction."

Anything else in Anderson, though?

The Virgin Mary as Star of the Sea is not a Biblical image. Poul Anderson traces its possible pagan antecedents.

Kaor, Paul!

Thanks for the nice mention of a recent combox comment of mine!

I too recall Skip's rather satirical mural painting of the Last Judgment seen in THE BYWORLDER, but I don't recall any other depictions by Anderson.

You mentioned the BVM, which reminded me of how some "fundamentalist Protestant" anti Catholics like to falsely claim the Catholic veneration of St. Mary was worship of a pagan goddess. I've seen how some say the Catholic custom of addressing the BVM as the "Queen of Heaven" was proof of that, citing texts like Jeremiah 7.18 (which mentioned how apostate Jews worshiped the pagan goddess Ishtar as "queen of heaven."
