I am rereading "Memory" by Poul Anderson, The Girl Who Played With Fire by Steig Larsson and Casino Royale by Ian Fleming;
the British Prime Minister wants a General Election on 8 June;
the sun is shining and I will shortly drive my daughter and the student she cares for to his agricultural college out in the country;
I have had to turn away Jehovah's Witnesses whom I do talk with when there is time.

I know the statutory limit on the lifetime of a British parliament is five years, after which new elections are mandatory. Unless the PM requests the Sovereign to dissolve Parliament and call for new elections. Is Theresa May requesting early elections?
You are more patient than I am! I find Jehovah's Witnesses very difficult to talk to!

Recently, a measure was passed imposing fixed term Parliaments. So we are stuck with the present set-up until 2020 UNLESS the PM wants to go earlier AND can get a two thirds vote in the Commons - which I assume she can.
