From a blog perspective, we appreciate SM Stirling as a current worthy successor of Anderson. Compare and contrast Time Patrol and Make The Darkness Light. Hence some recent and upcoming posts.
Some people say, "I like sf," and then turn out to mean TV and films. I was in an sf shop that sold only media-related items, models, Star Wars novelizations etc. No Wells or Anderson.
Oh, well. Subcultures should flourish, of course.

Kaor, Paul!
Of course, THE DAY OF THEIR RETURN would be great as a first time book for any new reader of Anderson. But I might have suggested to such a person to read a non series story like THE HIGH CRUSADE. Or if a Technic story, something like ENSIGN FLANDRY.
I would rate DUNE a little higher than what you think, as being at least an interesting read. Another reader criticized DUNE for having no likable or decent characters (except, IMO, Duke Leto), a view I mostly agree with.
To paraphrase Sturgeon's Law, 90 percent of all so-called "SF" movies/TV shows is crud! My pet wish is for good filmed versions of some of the Nicholas van Rijn and Dominic Flandry stories.
Ad astra! Sean
Sean,
But THE DAY OF THEIR RETURN is like a better DUNE: barely habitable colonized planet; potential interstellar jihad.
Kaor, Paul!
I've never thought before of THE DAY OF THEIR RETURN being a better DUNE, but your suggestion makes sense. Aeneas is certainly far more "fleshed out" than Arrakis.
Ad astra! Sean
