Culminations And Ultimates

The Technic Civilization Saga, Volumes I-III (of VII) are an ultimate American sf future history series, encompassing the Polesotechnic League series, The Earth Book Of Stormgate and its companion volume, The People Of The Wind, and a few more stories.

The Time Patrol is an ultimate time travel series.

There Will Be Time is a time travel novel completing a future history series.

"Flight to Forever" is a time travel story incorporating a miniature future history.

And so on.

(We keep returning to the Technic History.)

Kaor, Paul!

I think Anderson's fantasies, such as the ones listed below are also worth returning to.

THE BROKEN SWORD (both versions)
OPERATION CHAOS
OPEDRATION LUNA
HROLF KRAKI'S SAGA
THREE HEARTS AND THREE LIONS
A MIDSUMMER TEMPEST

And the short stories collected in FANTASY.

Kaor, Paul!

I'm not sure about THE KING OF YS because that's mostly historical fiction with only flashes of fantasy. Ditto Anderson's MOTHER OF KINGS.

I agree about the Technic future history.

I forgot to include THE MERMAN'S CHILDREN in my list of Anderson's fantasies.

I'd say THE KING OF YS is definitely fantasy -- the destruction of Ys is brought on by its Gods. Who should have blessed the King's intention to colonize the Americas. They'd have had a lot more worshippers then!

Kaor, Mr. Stirling!

Good points, except I never had any respect for those "gods" of Ys. I recall how Gratillonius' Christian and Mithraist soldiers considered those beings to be demons, a belief the King privately agreed with.

I would now classify THE KING OF YS as historical/fantasy.
