From 1969 AD To Passover 33 AD

There Will Be Time, VI.

Jack Havig:

flies from New York to Israel in 1969;

stays in a hotel in Jerusalem;

walks along the Jericho Road until he finds an orange grove for concealment;

time travels to the previous midnight;

changes into tourist-shop Arab garb;

also carries a knife and a bag containing a phrase book, food, cup, tablets to disinfect water, soap, flea repellant, antibiotic, Roman coins, an ingot and a battery-operated "chronolog" which will show a red light when it detects the positions of heavenly bodies appropriate to the destination date even through an overcast;

takes reading by placing the moon and two planets in relation to the constellations;

sets the time and location;

uses verniers to find the numbers corresponding to Passover, 33 AD;

breathes deeply to oxygenate his blood;

fills his lungs;

travels pastward;

glimpses a shellburst which might be the Six Days War, the War of Independence or World War I;

pauses for breath on a cloudy night in the late nineteenth century, seeing two mounted men who do not see him (they will "always" be there then when anyone time travels through this time and place);

sees the land changing from trees to desert to fields;

glimpses what he thinks is a Crusader stadium;

stops more often for breath;

arrives.
