Two earlier references to the planet, Cynthia, had partly prepared the way for the arrival of the Cynthian, Chee Lan.

I think that the Technic History has a uniquely pleasing structure.

And this achievement by Anderson is even more striking when you recall how ACCIDENTAL it was, springing from an impulsive decision to link the stories about Nicholas van Rijn with the ones about Dominic Flandry. A linking we see in THE PLAGUE OF MASTERS.

I think that the inadvertent nature of the "Technic" future history is a bonus -- it makes the different stages -feel- different.
