And we have discussed whether "Sargasso of Lost Starships" would be best understood as a fiction written centuries later and set in the time of the Early Empire. If thought of as a fiction within the fiction, it would not matter so much that it fits only with difficulty in the Technic series.

Fiction within a fiction is an excellent status. The same applies to "The Star Plunderer." A completely different account of Argos could also be incorporated into the History.

I forgot about "The Star Plunderer," probably because, albeit it may have "fictional elements within the fiction," it was still more "historical" than "Sargasso." We should understand "Collar of Iron" (its alternate, and IMO more satisfactory title) as showing us how legends were accumulating around the Founder of the Empire.
