Saving The World II

Operation Luna, 29.

See Saving The World.

Saving the world is becoming a nuisance:

"Saving the world be damned, we wanted to get away and spend this long weekend, the last before school, with our children. Ginny decided we couldn't." (p. 264)

She is too busy but what are they saving the world from? Evil paranatural Beings are being exorcised from China and Japan. Some are colonizing the Moon. From there, they will counteract any human space program and might even counterattack Earth. In fact, they are sabotaging Project Selene to keep women off the Moon now. OK. Claiming the Moon (in peace for all mankind) does count as, potentially, saving the world.

IN CS Lewis' Ransom Trilogy, moral evil is confined within the orbit of the Moon but does include an evil race inside the Moon:

"'Sulva is she whom mortals call the Moon. She walks in the lowest sphere... Half of her orb is turned towards us and shares our curse... There dwell an accursed people, full of pride and lust...'"
-CS Lewis, That Hideous Strength IN Lewis, The Cosmic Trilogy (London, 1990), pp. 349-753 AT CHAPTER 13, p. 635.

Powerful stuff, Lewis. What would you have said of Poul and Karen Anderson's Ys?

The idea of evil in the Moon is common to Lewis and Anderson - and might we call Wells' Selenites evil?

Kaor, Paul!

It would have been very dangerous to allow evil paranatural beings to have unchallenged control of the Moon. Everything from such beings having the high ground, militarily speaking, to possibly giving the Adversary an opening for again wreaking large scale evil doing on Earth. To say nothing wrecking the US space program.

Ad astra! Sean
