And it was the high radiation background of the "Cloud Universe" which inevitably affected the ancestors of the Kirkasanters who found themselves in the globular cluster. Most humans would not care to permanently settle on planets in such a region.
It's my opinion that while the Kirkasanters descend from the McCormac rebels, not all of them settled on what became Kirkasant. Why should they? McCormac had enough ships and other resources that he could take the needed to find a really satisfactory terrestroid planet, not a planet as marginal as Kirkasant. Most likely, the Kirkasanters descend from a single McCormac ship which either got accidentally separated from the main flotilla or did so on purpose.
