Fiction Franchises

The Saint became a franchise with other authors writing original TV scripts and Charteris editing prose adaptations of those scripts.

Does franchise fiction work? What do we think of the Man-Kzin Wars franchise in Larry Niven's Known Space future history series? As fans of other sf writers, including Poul Anderson, we value those writers' contributions to the franchise even if we do not read the entire series. Anderson's Man-Kzin Wars trilogy should comprise one volume both of Known Space and of Anderson's Complete Works where it would appropriately follow his own several future histories.

Should Anderson's Technic History and Time Patrol be franchised? My answer to that question is no.

Kaor, Paul!

I must have MOSTLY liked the stories in the Man/Kzin series authorized by Larry Niven. I have the first ten or eleven volumes, after all.

I agree with your answer to the question of whether the Technic Civilization series or the Time Patrol stories should be franchised. Esp. since PA is deceased and unable to supervise any such franchising.
