Cainites

Cainites

Yildivans and Lugals are related like modern homo sapiens and Australopithecus.
Shivaru is a wealthy, progressive, middle-aged Yildivan, experimenting with ranching as a supplement to hunting, his advice sought by others.
Cherkez is Shivaru's gnome-like chief Lugal.
Shivaru, Fereghir and Tulitur question Per on who has sent him to Cain.
Tulitur and Bokzahan return to buy guns, leaving fifty male Lugals until payment is complete.
Kochihir is an adult son of Shivaru, captured when the Cainites attack the camp.
Gumush is also captured.

So far, we have six named Yildivans and one Lugal, although the Lugals greatly outnumber the Yildivans. I have begun to note the names because they recur in the text and I do not necessarily remember who they were.

I think more attention needs to be paid to the role played by the Lugals in Yildivan "culture." It was precisely and only because they had Lugals that it was possible for Yildivans to bypass ranks, hierarchies, social structures of any kind, etc.

A few more thought came to mind. How should the relationship between Yildivans and Lugals be described? is it symbiotic and somehow beneficial to both parties? Or are Yildivans merely parasitic and dependent on the Lugals, no longer able to survive without them? What might happen to some Lugals if, in some remote corner of Cain, there was a group of them living without Yildivans? Would they start developings wills of their own?
