In Delhi

SM Stirling, The Peshawar Lancers (New York, 2003).

Athelstane King and his men pass:

"...the Kashmir Gate..." (p. 167);

"...the Chandi Chowk..." (p. 168);

"Temples and churches and mosques..." (p. 169);

"...the Fatehpuri Masjid - a mosque built by one of Shah Jahan's wives..." (ibid.);

"...the Digamber, the Jain temple, with its attached hospital for sick birds..." (ibid.);

"...the Gauri Shankar temple dedicated to Siva and Parvati with its thousand-year-old sacred lignam..." (ibid,);

"...the great marble-and-gold gurudwara of Sisganj, where Tegh Bahadur, the ninth of the Gurus, had been martyred..." (pp. 169-170);

"...the spice market of Khari Baoli..." (p. 170);

"...the Kotwali police station..." (ibid.), where there had been a battle in the First Mutiny and a slaughter a century earlier.

Previously, King had stayed in the Red Fort (p. 167).

Googling confirms these as real places in our timeline as well as in that of the Angrezi Raj. Art holds a mirror to life.
