Wind On Atlantis II

Virgin Planet, CHAPTER XVII.

Davis barely manages to talk his way out of a confrontation. As he and his followers withdraw:

"The wind raved in coalsack streets." (p. 129)

Women have been raving so the wind sounds as if it does. When Davis swears:

"Davis stumbled on a cobblestone and swore. The wind whipped his oath from him." (ibid.)

The cobbled street and the wind represent the forces impeding Davis. He struggles to proceed and even his spontaneous oath is whipped away. The captain who is taking Davis to her ship speaks:

"'I'm staking a hell of a lot on you really being a Man,' she cried into the wind." (ibid.)

To express herself, she has to shout against all the forces that are ranged against her. The multi-purpose wind underpins the narrative.

Kaor, Paul!

Since the Doctors controlled the only available means of reproduction on Atlantis, for any woman to seriously anger them risked not being allowed to have children. Yes, a lot was at stake!

Ad astra! Sean
