Animating Anderson

As I have observed before, the three story-telling media are narrative, drama and sequential art.

Technological advances:

written narratives are printed;

drama is radioed, screened and combined with sequential art in animations;

films with CGI combine live action drama with animation.

Relevance to Poul Anderson:

CGI would be necessary for Ythrians, Merseians etc;

animation might be appropriate for some Anderson texts -

- some animated scenes in a suggested screenplay;

an animation of "Honorable Enemies"?;

I compare the Cynthian town of Lulach to a location in an illustrated story here.

Kaor, Paul!

Isn't poetry, esp. narrative poems like the AENEID, THE SONG OF ROLAND, and THE DIVINE COMEDY, also one of the story telling media?

I'm still not happy with the idea of using animation for any of the works of Anderson. Because animation is so obviously fake. But I don't object to the limited use of CGI. Esp for depicting non human beings.

Sean,

Of course narrative poetry is a story-telling medium but it is also a form of narrative. I do think that narrative, drama and sequential art are the only three story-telling media.

Kaor, Paul!

I agree. I wanted to make sure we both understood poetry was included as one of the narrative forms.

We've not seen many comments lately by S.M. Stirling. Probably because he is busy with the last minutes details that needs to be taken care of before a book is published. I think he has another Black Chamber book coming out in March.

Sean: Yup. DAGGERS IN DARKNESS is coming out from Ring of Fire press on March 11th.

My website has the cover, which is the best yet for that series, if you're interested -- smstirling.com

Kaor, Mr. Stirling!

First, many thanks for depositing so many comments in this blog when both Paul and I know you are a very busy writer. Much appreciated!

I look forward very keenly to getting a copy of DAGGERS IN DARKNESS next month!

I usually go to "smstirling.com," which I thought was your website. And I have sometimes left comments there. But I will look for the other website as well.
