We Claim These Stars, CHAPTER XVII.
"'In the end,' sighed Aycharaych, and Flandry had never heard so deep a soul-weariness, 'I am beaten not by a superior brain or a higher justice, but by the brute fact that you are from a larger planet than I and thus have stronger muscles. It will not be easy to fit this into a harmonious reality.'" (p. 121)
Yes, it will. Fortuna rules. (Her temple is in the image.) Accept it, man. (Well, not man but you know what I mean.)
Aycharaych really does need to find a way out of the trap that he has made for himself by deceiving the Merseians. Will he be able to let go of everything when Flandry bombards Chereion? Might that be Aycharaych's liberation?
We have nearly finished rereading We Claim These Stars but will not finish it tonight. However, we have learned that there is more to be found by rereading Flandry.

Kaor, Paul!
Except I don't think Aycharaych will be satisfied by being that mere Chance or Fortune rules.
If Aycharaych survived the bombardment of Chereion I hope he might find that to be paradoxically liberating. At least he would no longer have any reason to work for Merseia.
Ad astra! Sean
