From The Earth Book To The Saga

In Poul Anderson's The Earth Book Of Stormgate (New York, 1979):

Hloch's unheaded introductory passage is on pp. 1-2;

"Wings of Victory" is on pp. 3-22;

Hloch's second unheaded passage spreads across pp. 23-25 although it could have fitted onto two pages;

"The Problem of Pain" is on pp. 26-48 -

- and the volume continues in this manner. There is no table of contents. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS on p. v lists the original places and dates of publication of the eleven collected stories and one novel.

In Baen Books' The Technic Civilization Saga, compiled by Hank Davis:

Hloch's introductory passage gains the heading, INTRODUCTION WINGS OF VICTORY;

each of the eleven interstitial passages is headed INTRODUCTION, followed by the title of the next narrative;

Hloch's unheaded concluding passage, published at the midpoint of Volume III, gains the heading, AFTERWORD;

the originally unheaded fictional quotation introducing the first post-Earth Book story, "The Star Plunderer," gains the heading INTRODUCTION;

although INTRODUCTION WINGS OF VICTORY is on pp. 75-77 and the text of "Wings of Victory," here headed WINGS OF VICTORY, is on pp. 79-102, the table of contents lists "Wings of Victory" as beginning on p. 75;

similarly, each Earth Book interstitial passage is now treated as part of the following story;

where appropriate, the "Acknowledgments" separately list the original publication of an introduction in the Earth Book followed by the original publication elsewhere of the particular work.
