Was the Book of Mormon influenced by an sf novel? See the combox here.
I ask this question again because I suddenly remembered the following passage:
"I hope my Mormon friends won't mind my saying that their church, like our country, has a grand science fiction flavor about it. That ecclesiastical division into stakes and wards is pure Heinlein, isn't it? And so, by the way, is the raw courage with which their pioneers entered the wilderness."
-"The Discovery of the Past," p. 199.
Lastly, a recently successful sf writer is a Mormon.
I am out of here.

Kaor, Paul!
And of course the Catholic Church adopted "diocese" from the territorial organization of the Later Roman Empire: such as the diocese of Britannia, etc.
The only Mormon science fiction writers I can recall is Orson Scott Card, some of whose books I have read (the other being Larry Correia).
Ad astra! Sean
Sean,
I meant Scott Card.
Paul.
Kaor, Paul!
But Card has been writing for decades, so he is not a RECENTLY pub. author. I think some of his books are worth reading, like WYRMS.
Ad astra! Sean
