The trader team sub-series in Volume II of The Technic Civilization Saga and its sequel in Volume III (see here) do not exhaust our knowledge of the team members because we have already seen Adzel as a student and Falkayn first as an apprentice, then as a journeyman, in Volume I. Also in Volume I, the discovery of Ythri and the later exploration of Avalon pave the way for Falkayn's leadership of the joint human-Ythrian colonization of Avalon in Volume III.
Three events:
Dalmady's confounding of the Baburites on Suleiman in "Esau" (Volume I);
Falkayn's discovery of Mirkheim and founding of Supermetals in "Lodestar" (Volume II);
van Rijn's and Coya's arrival at Mirkheim in an Ythrian ship, also in "Lodestar" -
- paved the way for the Baburites' seizure of Mirkheim and their occupation of Falkayn's home planet, Hermes, in Mirkheim (Volume III). And the subsequent civil war and decline of the Polesotechnic League led to Falkayn's decision to found Avalon.
I might get used to these systematic, but also organic, interconnections between events in the Technic History but have not done so yet.

Kaor, Paul!
I agree that MIRKHEIM shows fatal fissures and "internal contradictions" opening in the Polesotechnic League. But I would stress as well how that story also shows us similar stresses working within the Solar Commonwealth. And one of those stresses was how we see the beginning of the Commonwealth being unable to act effectively and competently on an interstellar scale. An incompetence which steadily worsened as time passed, till we see the catastrophic situation described in "The Star Plunderer." So, it was no surprise that Manuel Argos was able, within a few years, to get rid of the discredited Commonwealth and replace it with the Empire.
Ad astra! Sean
