Holy Mountain

The Night Face, IX.

"Far and holy above western forests, the mountain peaks dreamed." (p. 623)

We have discussed this use of the word, "dreamed," before. See Dreaming and Sensing And Dreaming.

Why are mountains described as "holy"? I remember a poem in a book at school that contained the line:

"And the holy mountain that gathered into itself all the coloured days..."

- but cannot find it by googling.

Mount Shasta was regarded as a place of power by native Americans.

See also "High Is Heaven And Holy."

- which has flaming peaks and a rising sun under a high and holy heaven.

Kaor, Paul!

And of course Jews have a great reverence for Mount Zion in Jerusalem.

Ad astra! Sean
