A Scene On Mithras

For reference, see "Home."

7 Mithran years = 3 Terrestrial. See Years.

A houseboat comes down the Benison River, passes Riptide Straits and enters the Bay of Desire whose surface reflects the large, red-gold, setting sun. Sails and whistler wings are white. Across the Bay, a blue peak rises above Withylet village. Air remains warm though with a cool, salty breeze blowing from the Weatherwomb Ocean.

Three colors; three senses - and something that sounds familiar: Ythrians call the highest mountains on Avalon the Weathermother. See Avalonian Scenery. I did not expect to find that parallel when I began this summary of a Mithran scene.

Kaor, Paul!

And Poul Anderson had PERSONAL experiences with house boats! I have read somewhere, by either him or Jerry Pournelle, of the houseboat they built and used together. And of the trauma they endured when they ran out of beer! (Smiles)

IIRC one of them wrote that from those experiences they determined that the Law of the Sea is "It's in the Bilge".

Kaor, Jim!

I recall that as well, probably by Anderson!
