A Real Interstellar Trip

See Into The Shadow.

Karl Rouvaratz wants:

"...to propagandize for a real interstellar trip. Tau Ceti, say; that one must have planets, and you could coldsleep during the decades of the voyage. God, to walk on a world uncluttered by cities and crowds and governments and police, a world unraped by man!" (p. 94)

So the Gearchy has coldsleep technology? OK. Here is how to link "In The Shadow" to either the Rustum or the Directorate future history. Because of information sent from the shadow planet (see The Gearch), the Gearchy will be overthrown to be replaced either by the Federation or by the Directorate, then STL interstellar travel with suspended animation will begin, to be followed by extra-solar colonization.

Kaor, Paul!

I don't think so because we see nothing in either the Rustum or Directorate stories about the Federation or Directorate being preceded by the Gearchy. And nothing is said about the shadow planet of "In The Shadow." It is easier and simpler to consider "Shadow" a one off, non series story. I do wish Anderson had written more Gearchy stories.

Sean,
That was not a serious suggestion but I was impressed by the references to coldsleep and to extra-solar colonization.

I noticed that as well. But things like cold sleep would be a necessity if STL means are used for going to the stars. So I would expect to see that in different stories and series featuring STL.
