Kith and Starfarers are not two volumes of the Kith future history but alternative versions of that history.

The Directorate History (extra-solar colonization)
Kith (interstellar trade and exploration)
Starfarers (interstellar trade and exploration)

The Maurai History (post-nuclear Earth)
The Psychotechnic History (humanity and technology)
The Technic History (historical cycles)
The Harvest of Stars Tetralogy (human-AI interaction)

GENESIS is not only about AIs, both in and out of the Solar System, but also about the RETURN of the human race, and what the AIs can or should do about that.
