Poul Anderson, The Byworlder, X.
Ships, tugs, barges, fishing boats, yachts, police and watercleaner craft nearly covering the glistering blue of San Pedro Bay;
helicopters filling the sky;
white contrails;
drifting thunder;
pastel buildings;
green parks;
skyscrapers rising like spires;
soaring railway arcs;
crystalline air;
the megalopolis stretching beyond the horizon;
the deep continuous querning sound of men and machines;
heat;
sailors bustling on the flagship.
Three senses and yet another concretely realized future location.

Kaor, Paul!
This sounds a lot like, say, the Chicago Integrate we see in the era of the Polesotechnic League in the Technic stories.

Sean,
A one-off novel can present just as concrete a future setting as a future history series.
Paul.
Kaor, Paul!
I agree.
