Hope And New Ideas

Poul Anderson, The Byworlder.

There has been a frustrating failure to communicate with the extrasolar alien that has been in Earth orbit for three years. Skip, while visiting a religious community that regards the alien as a divine manifestation, gets an idea about the alien that he must communicate with someone like the President of the United States or the High Commissioner of the Peace Authority. Meanwhile, Yvonne, a scientist who regularly visits the alien ship, has a new idea that she will try next time.

There is hope. Meanwhile, it sounds as though Earth, with its "...poor rat-frenetic seven billion..." (III, p. 26) needs new ideas.

Kaor, Paul!

And those new ideas should focus on hard headed practical common sense and on getting off this rock! I mean, stop hankering after failed ideas like socialism and doing MORE of what Elon Musk is trying to do with SpaceX.
