As we continue to read Poul Anderson's "The Saturn Game," we learn a few more details of the "play within the play," how the Elf King trapped Ricia etc. We also learn the names of other characters who are not involved in the current action:
N'Kuma the Lionslayer;
Bela of Eastmarch;
Karina of the Far West;
Lady Aurelia;
Olav Harpmaster.
Literary references connect works of different types.
Enchanted by the Iapetan glacier, Jean Broberg, Colin Scobie and Luis Garcia, disregarding safety precautions, begin to explore further while reverting to their role-playing dialogue. Within the game, Scobie/Kendrick, aided by the remote viewing Garcia/Alvarlan, enters the City to rescue Broberg/Ricia whereas in reality all three approach the glacier together. Anderson's narrative and the warnings of the fourth character, Danzig, back in the spacecraft, make clear to the reader that a disaster is imminent.
