Mongols

The Epilogue (pp. 319-320) of SM Stirling, The Sea Peoples (New York, 2017) contains the terms:

noyons;
khans;
Tngri (singular);
Tengri (singular);
tngri (plural).

(Confusing. Rereading this, I thought that I had miss-spelled.)

For these terms in a Poul Anderson story, see the post:

Some Points To Note In "The Only Game In Town"

- including the Comments.

Both authors also refer to Mongols drinking fermented mare's milk.

Posts remain even more telegrammic than usual while I still suffer a cold.

Kaor, Paul!

We see "Mongols" not only in Anderson's "The Only Game In Town," but also in the far future, in his Technic Civilization, on Altai, a planet settled in large part by Mongols (with some Russian apparently mixed in). In "A Message In Secret," we see such Mongol terms as "noyon," "khan," and "tengri," etc. The climate of Altai had forced the Mongols who settled there to develop a nomadic culture roughly similar to what their ancestors had known on Terra.
