In Poul Anderson's "The Warriors from Nowhere," an alien called Sarlish is from the planet Jagranath, beyond the Terran Empire. "Jagranath" is an alien name but also a creation of Anderson's imagination so what might have influenced it? Hindus have a Lord Jagannath, whose name became the word "juggernaut." Another Hindu-sounding planetary name in the Technic History is Jihannath, discussed here.
Googling reveals that Sarlish is a Terrestrial surname. My motto has become: Google everything.

Kaor, Paul!
Almost certainly, Anderson's invented names "Sarlish" and "Jagranath" had only an ACCIDENTAL resemblance to the real "Jagannath" and "Sarlish." But it was interesting that Sarlish, in "Warriors From Nowhere," had a genuine Terran equivalent.
And I remember Jihannath from Djana (in A CIRCUS OF HELLS) unreasonably blaming the Empire for the abuse she suffered thee as a child when the planet was not yet even held by Terra!
