I am having problems commenting on my own blog and might have to get technical help.

Replying to comment on "Universal Exports":

Sean, Halo lives after the Book was banned.

Replying to comments on "Why Should It?":

Sean, You know from previous discussions how I will reply to this.

Mr. Stirling, I know religions are more than stamp clubs but I still maintain that people of many different religions can coexist peacefully.

I hope that this post publishes and I might be just posting, not commenting, for a while.

Addendum: I can publish only one-word comments. At most.

Kaor, Paul!

Yes, I did see and read this "emergency" blog piece. And your "testing" comments. I am sorry you are having technical problem and I hope they will soon be resolved. I still remember, with thanks, how, when I was having trouble with combox comments of mine mysteriously disappearing, you very kindly and patiently copied my far too frequent remarks!

Yes, but Halo Jones seems to be disparaging the "Book," calling it full of "violent, frightening stories, long since banned." And seems to approve of that banning!

I'm sorry if I seemed quarrelsome and contentious, but I simply could not pass by without protest your comments about rivalries, ambitions, violence, conflicts of all kinds, etc., somehow disappearing. Because, respectfully, I found your views contrafactual to everything I have seen, known, discovered. And Mr. Stirling made the same point as I in a clearer, pithier way.

Yes, it can be possible for a society or nation with many religions to have them living together more or less in peace. IF there is a state to enforce that peace. That, like the existence of violence, rivalries, ambitions, etc., seems so obviously necessary that it should not need to be stressed.

Testing longer.

Maybe my commenting capability has returned.

Sean,

Please don't worry about seeming contentious. That is never an issue.

Sean,

Halo lived in a period when she had been told bad things about the Book and merely repeated them. She did not have any knowledge of the subject.

Sean,

I am planning a post on human nature in sf.

I am writing short comments in case they stop appearing again.

I am seeing these short "test" comments. Understood, what yous said about Halo Jones. That thing about banning the Book reminded me of Alfred Bester's novel, THE STARS MY DESTINATION, where we see Christianity mentioned as being outlawed and driven underground.

Thanks, re being "contentious."

Sean,

Christianity and other theisms. And Bester should have given us some explanation. What was the regime on Earth? Why was it at war with the outer Solar System? Etc.

Kaor, Paul!

I agree, we don't see any explanation for how and why that happened. Not sure I recall if a single gov't ruled Earth in THE STARS MY DESTINATION, or why there was a war in the Outer System.

Kaor, Paul!

Since we are now discussing Bester's THE STARS MY DESTINATION, we should remember the main focus of the novel is on the psi power called "jaunting," the ability, by a mental act of will to teleport one's self from Point A to Point B.

And, I've been remembering the dramatic parts near the end of the story focusing on St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC.
