Byron Shaddock, being a well-read man, quotes some Latin: "Festina lente," (p. 127) meaning "Make haste slowly," which is also the name of an "Eetcafe" (?) in Amsterdam. Latin and Amsterdam are two big blog themes.
Byron has eliminated Gayle Thayer from the Follow the Leader competition but I have reread no further today and right now am getting back to The Boys. (See Verbals And Visuals and The Boys.)

I have now googled "eet." It does mean "eat."

I am not surprised. Both modern English and Dutch descend from NE Germanic dialects or languages and common origins. I would expect them to still have some mutually understandable words in common. Such as "eet" for "eat."
