When Gratillonius reflects that Ys has become his home, the Andersons have shown us this happening. He no longer wants to return to Britannia or to gain greater power in the Empire. He works for Ys. He can have no women but the Queens but they are enough. He cannot have a son but has many daughters and Dahut might become another:
