The Triumph Of Time by James Blish
Galaxies form metagalaxies which rotate around the Metagalactic Centre, the point from which the universe exploded. The universe collides with its antimatter counterpart. Individuals who occupy the Metagalactic Centre at the moment of collision make new monoblocs from their own bodies.
Tau Zero by Poul Anderson
The universe cyclically expands and contracts. A relativistic spaceship survives the next collapse, orbits the new monobloc and flies out into the new universe.
Current Cosmology
The universe did not explode from a single point. Instead, each point in space recedes from every other point.
Cosmic expansion is accelerating. There will be no gravitational collapse.

Kaor, Paul!
I remember that bit from Blish's story. Even then, so long ago, I think something in me rebelled against that notion: individuals creating new monoblocs from their bodily atoms.
Ad astra! Sean
