The Big Three Future History Series

In Poul Anderson's Psychotechnic History, each instalment is set years, decades, centuries or millennia after its predecessor whereas, in Anderson's Technic History, as in Heinlein's The Green Hills Of Earth, several instalments happen in different places during the same period of time. Thus, these latter two future history series are less chronologically uni-dimensional.

In the Psychotechnic History, three characters appear twice whereas the Technic History has a large number of continuing characters including two fictional biographies:

David Falkayn from apprentice to acting CEO of SSL;

Dominic Flandry from Ensign to Fleet Admiral.

Because it is longer and also is an amalgamation of two individually substantial series, the Technic History has a lot more background information carried forward from earlier instalments into later instalments: thus, a solider future history series.
