The People Of The Wind, XIV.
Discussing the Terran-Ythrian War can be controversial even in 2024. Peace is to be found in the Avalonian environment. Part of that environment is the Ythrians. Sunlight behind Eyath bronzes her wings and fringes them with a "...golden haze." (p. 590) Arinnian thinks that she could be the sun, the wind:
"...or everything wild and beautiful above this ferroconcrete desert." (ibid.)
When Arinnian's "flitter" enters the upper stratosphere, viewscreens show, in different directions:
silver ocean;
purple twilight;
the sun, Laura;
the moon, Morgana;
stars;
"...immensity, cold and serene." (p. 591)
When they reach St. Li, the sky is pearl-grey, the sea is indigo laced with white and the island is soft green. The warm, damp breeze is perfumed with janie.
Tabitha Falkayn is accompanied by the prisoner of war so Arinnian tells her in Planha that they must discuss an urgent matter. We are back to talking about the war.

Kaor, Paul!
And I still find Christopher Holm's sentimentalizing about Ythrians irritating!
Ad astra! Sean
