A Global Decision In Six Hours

The People Of The Wind, XI.

"The talk seemed interminable. And yet, at the end, when the vote was called, when Liaw made his matter-of-fact announcement that the data banks recorded 83 percent in favor of continued resistance, barely six hours had passed. Humans couldn't have done it." (p. 564)

But there are increasing numbers of human members in the choths. However, these "birds" will learn to emulate Ythrian tacurnity and also to accept that they need not speak if someone else has already made the point that they would have made. Meanwhile, progressive choths have adopted human technology, starting, back on Ythri, with spaceflight. Avalonian biracial civilization is extremely fruitful.

After six hours of sitting, Arinnian hears:

"...the noise of cramped wings being stretched..." (ibid.)

I would not be able to relax, surrounded by so many large, winged, feathered beings. However, Tabitha Falkayn is:

"'...the sole human permanently resident on St. Li...'" (p. 569)

- and, indeed, has grown up there, raised by Ythrians since her parents' deaths.

How many humans would accept merely 'upvoting' a point they would have made, if the meeting was in some sort of electronic forum?

Kaor, Jim!

Not that many! Many are simply in love with the sound of their voices!
