Sub Specie Aeteritatis

We have found many uses of Latin in Poul Anderson's works but seem to have missed:

"The Arulian insurgency was the worst incident to date - but perhaps nothing more than an incident, sub specie aeternitatis."

"Outpost of Empire," like the later Technic History instalment, The Game Of Empire, is partly an sf travelogue. John Ridenour arrives on Freehold of the Nine Cities, visits Sevenhouses, which has been reduced to rubble by the local war, then visits Nordyke which is a pleasant change because untouched by strife. Much detail, like the Arulians and the Freeholder cities, is established for this one story but not repeated in any later instalments.

I might have posted more this evening but got drawn into the previous posts about Latin.

Kaor, Paul!

Alas, we did not get many details about the Nine Cities of Freehold, because the Outbackers soon destroyed them.

Ad astra! Sean
